When you’ve been in the food and wellness world for over 30 years, you have a lot of stories—and lessons learned. Recently, I had the chance to share some of mine on Executive Leaders Radio. It’s a weekly radio show that explores the personal stories and career paths of CEOs. Here are some highlights from my interview.

On employee loyalty…

My employees know that if they make a mistake, it’s okay—we’ll fix it together. I also move people around until we find a ‘fit’ and they settle into a place where they can do their best work and feel a sense of purpose. This has really worked for me.

On resilience…

Things change daily in the food industry. Prices rise. People come and go. Trends shift. I’ve been selling health and wellness for 33 years, long before it was in fashion. Now, it’s suddenly “in,” but I’ve been doing the same thing all along. I’ve stayed resilient by making food people wanted at the time, while always knowing this was where we were headed.

On community…

I grew up working in my parents’ restaurant. Their customers were the same, their workers were the same, and when I walked in after school, everyone wanted to hear about my day. This open connection was wonderful. It’s what I do in my business now. My clients are the same year after year; I care for them, their children, and now their grandchildren. Many of my team members have been with me for more than 20 years. So, we have that sense of community. We’re all family.
